Comments: Ran the road between Dau Tieng and Tay Ninh from 2/68 thru 9/68. Worked with 1/5th Recon Platoon for a period of time. I was the Lt with responsibility, not only for the The Road, but for getting all you Track Drivers all the "Track Blocks" and "Road Wheels" you needed. Does anyone know what I'm referring to? If so let's hear from you.
I remember, like yesterday, the day the 1/5th got ambushed in Ben Cui. It started out small and just kept growing. The cooks and the clerks in Dau Tieng were wearing their steel pots and flack vest by late afternoon and everyone went to the bunkers and ate C's that night, just like the REAL SOLDIERS. I also remember 1/5th guys coming in looking for .50 cal barrels. They had shot theirs out. Cu Chi didn't(WOULDN'T) deliver(It was the Air Force's responsibility to supply Dau Tieng. Remember that horse s...?) and those guys went back out with only their M-60's. A Leg Infantry Battalion was brought in by C-130's to support the 1/5th, but by the time they arrived, the fighting was over.

Comments: Found your site while attempting to find info on the death of my brother-in-law, 1LT Victor Lee Ellinger. He was killed November 24, 1970 in Hua Nghia province, supposedly by hostile small arms fire. He was 25th Infantry Division and had been in country since July 18, 1970. I was 13 years old then and loved him dearly. I'm trying to find any type of specific info about his life and death in Vietnam that will help me achieve some closure in my mind. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

On May 16, 1970 I was shot thru the throat & was one of the ones that was dusted off on that unforgetable day. Have found
out that many thought that I was dead or that I could no longer talk. Neither is true. I have somehow survived & eat like a pig. Am just now beginning to have PTSD problems. I've been to the VA & am now starting counseling.
I'll never forget the ones who served their country even when it was unpopular.

I appear to me one of the few WWII members of the 5th Infantry to have signed your guest book but I am also a Vietnam veteran. I served in MACV Headquarters 1967-1968 (during the TET Offensive). I got into the field often enough to appreciate what you combat soldiers had to put up with and to admire what a wonderful job you were doing. My generation has received a lot of accolades since Tom Brokaw wrote "The Greatest Generation" but I'm here to tell you that your generation, especially those of you who served so courageously in VN in spite of the flak that you had to take from some groups back home, are equally to be admired. Hopefully some day your generation will receive the credit it deserves. Keep up your good work with the Bobcats.

Comments: Sir my hat goes off to you and others like you who have the courage to share a very private (for some) scary and possibly the worst time in your life. Educating others on the horrific experience that Americas "boys" experienced while in combat. My brother was also fighting this war from 69-71.By the grace of God his life was spared only to come home and die of what Drs. say was possibly Agent Orange when his baby girl was only 18 mnths old. His name was Rick Booher and he was in the 173rd Airborne as well as the 82nd.

my second tour to serve with my first cousin, NORMAN PIERCE, who was assigned to C 1/5(M). I was
with the MECH in Dau Tuiang, Cambodia, and Xuan Loc. I also served thru Cambodia as a member
of the CRIP platoon and was with C Company when two men were killed and ten were wounded while

Comments: I first saw Dau Tieng shortly after arriving in country , just a few days after departing our luxury liner from our 21
day cruise across the Pacific in August of 66 with the 4th Infantry Division out of Ft Lewis, Washington. Man , was I ever
I ever glad to get my feet back on solid ground again. It took us about 2 days or so to get us all up to the plantation ,
and as far as I know , we were the first to set up permanent residence there. What a great place for a 19 yr old
to spend his last year as a teenager. Yeah , right. After a few months we became the 3/25th due to the fact the rest of our division was up near Pleiku.
I spent my entire tour with HHC motor pool both at the plantation and at various fire support bases in III Corp.
I will never forget the time I spent there and the many young soldiers I met making the transition from boyhood to manhood.
Thanks for a great site to browse and I look forward to visiting often. Keep up the good work, and your
time and effort is much appreciated.

I have made contact with Doug Huffman on his website and he has a few pictures of me on it. Only man I lost over there was David Johnson May 17 1970. If you remember we went to help out Charlie Co. when they got overran in Cambodia on May 12, I was hit in the leg that day with mortar. I have some pictures I can scan in. Let me here from you.

Comments: Welcome Home. I started with the 4th/9th Manchu in Alaska, Hawaii, Vietnam went to LRRP D. 3/4 CAV, and finished my time in the Tropic Lightning as a Bobcat with HHC 4.2's. I remember the James Bond names and paint for the 00- tracks with fondness. Guess in the new Army you can't name a vehicle Pussy Galore.
